Also, this is one relevant link that I am fairly sure you haven't listed. I have barely looked at the wealth of knowledge here, but there appears to be full transcripts of interviews with dozens of people involved with the WPA: http://www.aaa.si.edu/collections/topic/new-deal-44
A lot of good ideas were brought up in the Q & A. Among then:
• Teach literary citizenship as well as literary professionalism in your classes (e.g., have students organize public readings of their work in high schools, assisted care facilities, etc.)
* Teach ourselves and our students about copyright reform, including the possibility of revenue earned by a work after the author's death and a reasonable period for his or her estate being used to fund arts programs, such as the National Endowment for the Arts
• Urge AWP to engage in more outreach during the conference (e.g., open the Bookfair up to the general public more than just the last day, have an afternoon of the conference devoted to outreach to schools, etc.)
If you'd like to offer feedback to AWP about these ideas (and encourage the Association to do more panels like ours), go to
Thanks very much for putting together this panel! I look forward to continuing the dialogue.

ReplyDeleteThanks! I probably won't get around to updating things for a few days, but I will as soon as I get re-organized.
